While various areas of the country continue to be exposed to extreme heat and the care measures suggested by the National Metereological Service (SMN), for this Thursday, January 12, a mostly cloudy day is expected in the City of Buenos Aires (CABA) and the Buenos Aires suburbs, with a probability of isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. The temperatures would not exceed 30°, while the minimum values would be around 20°.
The morning will begin with a partly cloudy sky and as the hours advance the cloudy intervals will be extended, with winds rotating to the south and unstable weather, which would deteriorate significantly towards sunset. Isolated storms are expected, with winds that would circulate between 13 and 22 kilometers per hour.
The unstable trend will continue overnight, with probability of showers and an average temperature of 24°.
Alerts for other areas of the country
In the last hours, the SMN issued alert for strong storms with gusts and occasional hail fall in the provinces of Formosa and Chaco. The most affected towns are Bermejo, Matacos, Patiño, Almirante Brown and Gral Guemes.
The entity reported that the phenomena were “detected with meteorological radars” and released a series of Recommendations for the residents of the area:
- Secure objects that can be thrown by the wind;
- Stay away from the trees, since the force of the wind could break some of their branches;
- Staying in closed buildings such as houses, schools or public buildings;
- Stay away from electrical appliances and avoid using wired phones;
- Avoid outdoor activities;
- To minimize the risk of being struck by lightning, do not stay on beaches, rivers, lagoons or pools.
On the other hand, this Wednesday there was “a relief in temperatures in the central region”, while in the north coast the thermometers rose “above 38 °C and 39 °C”.
As for extreme temperatures, the SMN warns that they exist”strong evidence of health risks from prolonged exposure to very high temperatures”.
