Soccer owes a lot to the imagination. For this reason, in each previous to a match, multiple theories are generated about how that game can take place and who will be the protagonists. And also the scorers. Much more in a classic. In this context, in the run-up to Instituto-Belgrano, regardless of how both teams find themselves in the standings, many imagine that Adrián ‘Maravilla’ Martínez and Pablo Vegetti will have the key to the goal at the Mario Alberto Kempes stadium.
From 7:00 p.m., for the 22nd date of the Professional League, the ‘glorious’ and ‘pirates’ will face each other again, and all eyes will be on the gunners of each team, the figures of their teams, in different contexts, it is TRUE. How the center forwards get to the classic.
The scorer. Vegetti is the top scorer for Belgrano and the tournament. He has converted 13 goals of the 20 that Celeste scored in the Professional League. The cast led by Guillermo Farré depends a lot on the potential of the attacker who emerged from Unión Santo Domingo, from the province of Santa Fe. So much so, that 65% of the heavenly goals were scored by him. One more fact: every time he converted, Belgrano did not lose. In his entire career, he scored 128 goals in 307 games.
A marvel. Instituto has converted in the tournament only 17 goals in the 21 games of the season. Clearly the offensive aspect is costing the Alta Córdoba team and ‘Maravilla’ is the one who manages to find “water in the desert”. The striker is the team’s top scorer with seven goals, being the most regular player with the best performance of those who came after promotion. We must even add two more goals to his record in the ‘Gloria’, due to the two goals scored in the Copa Argentina. In his entire career he has played 261 games and scored 92 goals.
Emerging from the ascent The scorers have some coincidental points: they emerged in amateur clubs and reached the First Division based on sacrifice and breaking nets. Martinez did not make it down. As a kid he played for the local club Las Acacias. In 2015 he tried out at Defensores Unidos, a First C institution, he was signed –although without salary– and he only made his official debut at the age of 22. In 2017 he scored 21 goals with the Defensores jersey, which earned him a transfer to Atlanta (First National), where he scored 15 goals in one season. The following year he emigrated to Paraguay and was the tournament’s top scorer with Sol de América; and after passing through Libertad and Cerro Porteño in that country, he was acquired by Coritiba in Brazil, until he reached Instituto this season.
egetti debuted in 2008 in Unión de Santo Domingo, the club of his town. After scoring 18 goals, he moved on to Sarmiento de Humboldt and then to Colón de San Justo, where he scored 32 goals in 40 games. Then, in 2012, Vegetti forced the first professional contract on him. It was in Villa San Carlos (First Metropolitan B). The following year he was acquired by Rangers of Chile and then had steps for Ferro, Gimnasia La Plata and Colón, without standing out. He arrived at Boca Unidos de Corrientes and from there his career was relaunched, being one of the best players in the B Nacional in the 2017-2018 season. In 2019 he went to the Institute and broke it and from there he changed neighborhoods, to make history in Belgrano.
