Last Thursday May 11 Orange X performed “Orange X Tech4Impact”, a free event in which leading companies and benchmarks in the IT community gave talks and shared workspaces on the latest trends in data and software engineering. One of the most discussed topics, without a doubt, was the development of artificial intelligence (IA), its impact, possibilities and limits.
A few years ago, this tool ceased to be the exclusive use of large technology companies and came to be used in different sectors. The world of finance is no exception and, among other functions, one of the most used in the field has to do with prediction of fraudulent consumption.

During one of the talks at the event, where PERFIL was present, Diego SalamaEngineering Director of Goalthe case of ChatGPTa prototype made by open AI who specializes in dialogue. “The fact that it is available to all people is transformative. I don’t remember any transformation with the potential that this one has, for me it will be stronger than the cell phone“, I thought.
This situation has generated fear in some companies and references, but Salama said that the first thing that large technology companies have to do is “adopt this very quickly” since it can change the environment. In this line, the question arises how AI can be applied to solve customer problems, characteristics are its limitations and, at the same time, how it is “putting at risk” some jobs.
reshaping the job market
With intelligence, some people have raised a cry about the changes in employment but also about the new opportunities that can be generated. That is why one of the keys is to know in what senses it is conditioned. alex saezIT Manager of Orange X, indicates four axes: hallucinations, biases, dependence and long term memory.
“AI doesn’t know how to say I don’t know. When he doesn’t know something he invents it, with some strange answers, even from the technical. About the second, these tools were human-produced and amplified biases. For example, he was once asked to write a code to determine if a person would be a good scientist based on his gender and his race, and I don’t think anyone was surprised which gender and race he took as good,” he quipped in his exposure.
The third point is due to the fact that the systems “depend on us”, since, for example, it can program according to our orders but does not have autonomy, so it is difficult that, today, you can totally replace someone at work. The lack of long-term memory, explains Sáez, is due to the fact that “although he trained with a lot of historical information, this is up to a certain point, never going to have ‘ultimate’ and the size of context in this tools is limitedYou can’t have a whole system in your head like a programmer has to take the next steps.”
For this reason, it is important to take advantage of it and “not be used by the AI“, that these are a complement to our work and obtain answers in the most efficient way. In addition, a strategy that is recommended in this aspect -and in others in life- is”exercise critical thinking“.
If it is not exercised, it makes us more likely to be manipulated and difficult to solve problems, so it is recommended to “cultivate a curious personality”, not to assume that all the information we consume is true, to understand that one can be wrong and thus learn to filter biases and hallucinations.
The systems engineer highlighted that the most vulnerable jobs in this scenario are those of increased repetitive work, and that the jobs that new technologies will generate will demand more skills. In contrast, a risk that companies run with some AI tools, such as ChatGPT, is that of give them your information.
Finance and artificial intelligence
Gonzalo OzanCTO at Naranja X, commented to this outlet that “innovation is the DNA” of this financial technology but indicates that the main motivation is “to be able to apply it to make a positive impact in the lives of our clients”. Along these lines, he mentioned that the multidisciplinary teams focus on “creating technology-based solutions that seek solve needs and problems that they have in their daily financial life”.
About ChatGPT, he commented that they are exploring the possibilities of this technology but, at the same time, with the focus on the use case to be able to apply it in the customer value proposition. “One cannot look the other way than these evolutions are significant leaps but not to fall in love with the technology but with what problem we want to solve”, he added.
The use of artificial intelligence can allow, among other things, that each client has a more personalized experience the use of your digital banking or even ATMs. Pablo Mlynkiewicz, Director of Data and Analytics de Naranja, explained that the aforementioned chatbot is a “luxury assistant” that they currently use to “learn to throw codes much faster and speed up that learning process.”
Meanwhile, I said that today the business cases that come out of the generative idea are the models of “Machine learning” for risk and fraud. This discipline provides, through algorithms, computers the ability to identify patterns in massive data and elaborate predictions.
“We do processes of cross selling with our customers and the challenge we have with fraud is going at the same speed as AI; when we find a particular pattern that allows us to avoid a fraudulent situation, after three minutes another appears that puts us back in that challenge. It is Machine Learning but it comes from bank scoreIt’s historic,” he added.
Another aspect that Mlynkiewicz highlighted is how information is shared among companies in the tech sector, a fact that was reflected in the conference held by Naranja X. “Now it is not that we are competing how we do it or what tools we use to provide a solution, but that we are competing with what precision we satisfy the needs of the client”, he closed.
“Orange X Tech4Impact”
more than 40 Speakers from top-tier companies like Microsoft, AWS, Google Cloud and Meta They shared their experiences in three auditoriums and a space for workshops in the building that the company has in the city of Córdoba. The main idea was to promote the exchange of ideas and learning.
Among different activities, the specialists pointed out the latest innovations in artificial intelligence, data science, machine learning, infrastructure and architecture, security, software development and engineering, and digital product construction.
The event could be followed from anywhere in the world via streamingand all talks and lectures are available on the Orange X official YouTube channelwith free access so that those interested can make contact with all the contents of the experience.
