The draw for the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores 2023 was held this Wednesday and the matches of the first knockout phase of the tournament and the subsequent brackets until the final, which will be played at the Maracana, were defined.
The draw was carried out from the city of Luque, Paraguay, headquarters of the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol).
These are the round of 16 crosses:
Atletico Nacional vs Racing Club
Bolivar vs Atletico Paranaense
Flamengo vs Olympia
Atletico Mineiro vs Palmeiras
Deportivo Pereira vs Independiente del Valle
Argentinos Juniors vs. Fluminense
River Plate vs Inter Porto Alegre
National vs. Boca Juniors
What can happen from the quarterfinals onwards? For example, if they win their respective round of 16 duels, the Brazilian super classic (Fla-Flu) could take place between the two most popular teams in Rio de Janeiro, Flamengo (current Libertadores champion) and Fluminense.
Meanwhile, the Argentine superclassic between Boca Juniors and River Plate could only take place in the final.
According to the official schedule of the Libertadores 2023, the knockout phases are played on these dates:
Round of 16: between August 2 and 9
Quarterfinals: between August 23 and 30
Semifinals: between September 27 and October 4
End: Saturday, November 4
It should be remembered that the stadium for the final was defined on March 8: the venue will be the historic Maracana in Brazil, which hosted the final of this cup for the last time in the 2020 edition.
