Despite recent problems off the pitch, the The Dallas Cowboys are still very interested at free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

On Sunday, Beckham was taken off a Los Angeles-bound flight from Miami after reportedly refusing to buckle up when asked to do so by flight attendants. Beckham was also reportedly losing consciousness.

After refusing to leave the plane when asked to do so by the flight crew, the plane was disembarked and Beckham was escorted out by police officers “without incident”.

On Tuesday, Dallas owner Jerry Jones said the incident didn’t change the team’s interest in the wide receiver.

“No, it wasn’t like that,” Jones said in Audacy’s 105.3 The Fan. “His general compatibility with the team, his judgment, his behavior, it’s not an issue for him. It is for many, but not for him.”

Beckham’s lawyer, Daniel Davillier, told a different side of the plane story, saying the incident was caused by an “overzealous flight attendant”.

“Odell Beckham Jr. boarded a morning flight in Miami without any problem,” Davillier began in a lengthy statement to NFL Network. “The flight was delayed after boarding and before takeoff. Mr Beckham fell asleep with the blanket over his head, which is his usual practice on long flights. [awakened] and said the plane was back at the gate and he needed to get off the plane because he didn’t put on his seatbelt when asked.

“He replied that he was asleep and that he would put on his seatbelt at that time. They informed him that it was too late and either he would have to get off the plane or everyone would have to get off the plane.”

The Cowboys are rumored to be the favorites to sign Beckham as the wide receiver continues to rehab from a torn ACL he suffered in Super Bowl LVI.

“Genuine, very genuine,” Jones said when asked about his impression of Beckham. “Very competitive, he’s confident, he feels good about himself. I think he builds confidence, but he’s still very, very compatible. We think he would be a great fit for us.”

The Cowboys are 8-3 on the season and play the Indianapolis Colts in week 13.
