Edesur must compensate 200,000 users for power outages

the company Edesur must compensate users who suffered power outages between December 1 and 20, in accordance with what was ordered by the National Electricity Regulatory Entity (ENRE) through Synthesized Resolution 131/2023 published this Tuesday in the Official Gazette.

According to the resolution, the compensation corresponds when it determines that 70,000 or more users found themselves out of service for five consecutive days, criterion that was met in this case and that is considered as an “Extraordinary Affectation of the Provision of the Service”.

The ENRE data indicate that the peak of users affected in this period was between December 5 and 12, with more than 70,000 users affected every day with the maximum registering on December 11 with 203,195 impacted customers.

On December 9, On the day the quarterfinals were played between Argentina and the Netherlands for the World Cup in Qatar, 181,602 users were without service.

The information was provided by Edesur through the “Web Service” channel, and the data is not yet available for the cases “in which the distributor invokes causes of fortuitous events or force majeure”, or in which they were responsible for “carrying out investment works used to improve the quality of the network ”, according to the Télam agency.

Based on this information and taking as a reference the Cost of Non-Supplied Energy (CENS) of the T1R1 rate (of consumption equal to or less than 150 kilowatts per hour), the ENRE potentially to Edesur compensate all affected users between December 5 and 12.

Compensation for those affected

  • For the interruptions of duration greater than or equal to 10 hours and up to 24 hours, the amount will be $1,451, while for those greater than or equal to 24 hours and up to 48 hours, it will be $2,418.
  • Cuts greater than 48 hours will imply a compensation of $3,385. The compensation is for each one of the interruptions, that is, if a user was affected more than once, they must receive more than one compensation.

The resolution also orders Edesur to carry out a complete analysis of what happened last December and to submit it to the ENRE.

Remedies must be credited to user accounts in the next 20 business days and it will be reflected as a credit in the next invoice, which must consign said compensation in a disaggregated manner. If the credit exceeds the amount, the remaining balance must be mentioned, which will be credited in the following invoices until it reaches zero.
