El Clínicas, among the most renowned hospitals in the region

In a quality ranking of hospital institutions prepared by the specialized company Global Health Intelligence, the José de San Martín Hospital de Clínicas of the University of Buenos Aires was positioned first in the list of Argentine public hospitals, in various categories.

This compendium is assembled based on the data stored in HospiScope, a database that collects updated information from Latin American hospitals, accumulating more than 140 specific data for each institution and covering about 90% of the hospitals in the countries of the region. .

The Hospital de Clínicas was distinguished “first” for being better equipped in the field of “advanced diagnostic imaging” and obtained second place among all the institutions -and first among the public ones- for having the largest infrastructure for carrying out a high volume of procedures. This award will improve it thanks to its thirty operating rooms. Added to this is the distinction in the category referring to “the largest amount of basic surgical equipment” since it has 31 surgical tables, 32 basic and advanced electrocauteries and 25 anesthesia machines.

Finally, the international report highlighted this hospital in the category “Best equipment for primary diagnosis”, “Best equipment for advanced diagnostic imaging” and “For high-risk patients”.

As explained by Dr. Marcelo Melo, current director of this hospital-school, “these recognitions place us, without a doubt, as one of the best public hospitals in the country.”

In the HospiRank 2023 list, Clínicas participated together with other Argentine public hospitals such as Garrahan, El Cruce and Julio Méndez Municipal and some private ones, such as the Italiano de Buenos Aires, the Suizo Argentina Clinic and Maternity Hospital, the Güemes Sanatorium and the HospitalAustral.

The Clínicas, located in Barrio Norte, is a true mini-city since more than 10,000 people circulate through its building every day, including patients, relatives, doctors, teachers, students and non-teaching staff. Every year about 360,000 consultations are attended and about 8,000 surgeries are carried out.
