It’s time for another genre preview looking at the upcoming list of upcoming Netflix series. This time, we’ll be going through all of the new fantasy series that we know are in development on Netflix.

You will now notice that this list is mostly made up of animated titles, particularly the upcoming new titles. This list would have been full of young adult fantasy shows in years past, be it titles like warrior nun, lockwood and companyeither shadow and bone. Sadly, given their performance, we’ve seen Netflix transition away from these shows.

Return of the fantasy series on Netflix
Before we dive into what’s new along the way, let’s cover some of the fantasy series we know will be returning for future seasons.
- Arcane (season 2) – After an incredible debut on Netflix, the series based on League of Legends will return for a second series sometime in 2024.
- Blood of Zeus (Season 2) – Powerhouse Animation confirmed in December 2020 that another season of the fantasy animated series would be on the way.
- Sweet Tooth (Season 3) – We’re giving Gus and his friends one last chance, with the third and final season of Sweet Tooth already in production.
- The Sandman (Season 2) – Based on the Niel Gaiman DC comics, production has begun on the next set of episodes that will introduce us to the Norse gods and various other characters from the seminal comics.
- The Witcher (seasons 4–5) – Liam Hemsworth will assume the role of Geralt in at least two future installments of The Witcher, confirmed on Netflix.
New Fantasy Series Coming Soon to Netflix
Avatar the last airbender

Coming to Netflix in 2024 is the new live-action adaptation of Nickelodeon’s incredibly popular animated series.
Following Aang and his friends, we will see the young man’s transition to become an airbender and defeat the Fire Nation.
Castlevania: Nocturne

Taking over from Castlevania, which aired on Netflix for four seasons, is this new spinoff entry from Powerhouse Animation and Project 51 Productions.
In this new iteration, we’ll be following Richter Belmont (a descendant of Trevor and Sypha), with him operating around the time of the French Revolution.

Originally on HBO Max, this new DC show produced by Berlanti Productions is now exclusively bound for Netflix. The show will follow duo Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine, who investigate supernatural crimes on Earth after opting not to go to the afterlife.
The author of the comic, Neil Gaiman, has also stated that the show will share the same universe along with The Sandmanso fingers crossed we see crossovers and such in the future.
Yummy in Dungeon

Announced at Anime Expo 2023 for a January 2024 release on Netflix (we’ll hear it on January 3) is a new series from Studio Trigger.
This is what you can expect:
“The knight Laios and his clever companions venture to seize the treasure hidden under the cemetery of a town. However, they are defeated by a Flame Dragon that devours Laios’s sister, Farin. Despite escaping the dungeon, they abandon their team and become destitute, leading to the group’s disbandment. Laios, now determined, must face the dungeon once more in a month’s time to rescue Farin before she becomes the dragon’s food.

Crossing into fantasy is this new comedy drama that hails from the UK.
Not much is known about the series’ history, beyond it being a modern retelling of Greek mythology with characters like Medusa, Seus, and Poseidon.
Stars on the series so far include Debi Mazar, Fady Elsayed, Cliff Curtis, Killian Scott, Jeff Goldblum and David Thewlis.
Magic: The Gathering

Originally announced in 2019, an adult animated series based on the popular card game has been a long time coming, but we still don’t know where it is in development. In 2021, the Russo brothers noticeably left the project, and at some point the series was supposed to be released in 2022, but now, in mid-2023, we don’t know how long it has been and if this still exists.
The series is slated to expand on the stories of the Planeswalkers, which are Magic’s unique heroes and villains who wield magic while battling risks greater than any world can bear.
Octopie Network and Snowball Studios are believed to be the two animation studios behind the project.

As part of the growing Witcher-verse on Netflix, we’re getting a new spin-off series (recently wrapped filming) that focuses on a group of renegades known as the Rats introduced in season 3 of the mothership show and prominent in the books. .

Jordan Ifueko
Sugar23 and MACRO announced in 2021 a new young adult fantasy series that will adapt Jordan Ifueko’s novel with Gina Atwater included in the project.
The premise of the story is about a young woman named Tarisai who is chosen to join an elite group called the Crown Prince’s Council. However, she soon discovers a dark secret and must navigate the dangerous world of political intrigue as she discovers her true identity.

Joe Henderson, best known for his work on Netflix’s Lucifer, has a couple of projects in the works at Netflix, one of which is a supernatural fantasy series for teens. shading.
The series is expected to focus on 16-year-old Zadie Lu, who, while dealing with the regular problems of high school, is worried that the shadows are somehow coming to life around her.

A new fantasy adventure television series called the districts will come from The Duffer Brothers (the team behind Strange things).
Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews lead the project, which takes place in the New Mexico desert and follows a group of heroes who have to thwart an alien threat.
the Chronicles of Narnia
Can you believe it was back in 2018 when Netflix first announced it was going to dive headfirst into the world of Narnia? Well, since then, any news about the future has been hard to find, to say the least. However, we do know that Greta Gerwig is on board to direct at least two movies.
However, when the venture was initially announced, Netflix said they would be working on an in-universe series as well, but that’s likely still a long way off.
The Magic Order

One project that is apparently in some sort of development hell is the Millarworld adaptation series which is similar to Harry Potter in that it revolves around magic.
The story is based on five families working in secret to rid the world of dangerous threats.

One project we don’t expect to hear anything new about anytime soon is The Talisman, a TV adaptation of the Stephen King and Peter Straub novel that was unveiled in 2019 (although mentioned again in 2022).
The book’s plot revolves around a 12-year-old boy named Jack Sawyer who goes on a road trip and ends up in a parallel world crossing paths with people in search of a powerful talisman.
twilight of the gods
One of numerous projects besides the big new sci-fi franchise. rogue moon that Zack Snyder currently has a hand will be twilight of the gods which comes from Xilam Animation.
Although we haven’t officially set our eyes on the new series yet, we do know most of the voice cast behind the show and that it will be a new take on the well-known Norse mythology.
