FIFA revealed the new format for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, which will feature 48 teams, divided into 12 groups, and will have a total of 104 matches.
The Council defined it this Tuesday at a meeting of the members in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, but the president of the entity, gianni infantinoI had already anticipated it during the development of the Qatar 2022 World Cup that won the Argentine national team.
The 2026 World Cup will take place with 12 groups of four teams for which 104 matches will be played throughout the 40 days that the competition will last. In the initial phase, everyone will face everyone in each zone and the first two by group will qualify, in addition to the eight best third-placed.
