“Only out of necessity one more lover for your collection” starts singing Jaime James, at the head of the LOUTA project, in “VENENO”. With the catchiest chorus of all their latest releases, the effervescence and pop lightness of the song contrasts with the fragility that the lyrics explore. The luminous beginning gives way to the lighter side of the current linkage to later offer us its other face, the lack of connection, which is enunciated when it lowers its tone and we hear “if there is no connection, don’t worry, it’s just one more”.
After spending the first part of 2023 touring venues throughout Latin America, including Lollapalooza in Chile, Asunciónico in Paraguay, Estéreo Picnic in Colombia, and a double in Mexico via Tecate Pa’l Norte Monterrey and AX Ceremonia in Mexico City, “VENENO” comes as a breath of fresh air for all LOUTA fans. His first release of the year follows his 2022 singles “DECIME QUE ES VERDAD” and “QUEREME”, the latter in collaboration with WOS. The production of this premiere featured the talent of the multi-award-winning Colombian producer Richi López, known for collaborating with Bad Bunny, Shakira, Ricky Martin, Tini, and Nicki Nicole, among many others.
The presentation of “VENENO” is accompanied by a video clip directed by Jaime James himself and made together with Juan Manuel Pinzón and Ramiro Birriel where we see several screens and projections -it takes place mostly in a movie theater and in front of a television- and characters who go in search of than what may be behind them. The camera will put us, the viewers, on this side and the protagonists of the video, including Jaime James, peering curiously into a mirror game in which LOUTA once again demonstrates the centrality it gives to the audiovisual part of its project. Already in “DECIME QUE ES VERDAD” we saw this shift towards resources, references and cinematographic themes.
“VENENO” brings the long-awaited new material from LOUTA that begins to outline the current search for the project. After the memorable presentations at festivals in these months and the release of this single, it remains to be seen what LOUTA plans for the rest of the year with its characteristic bid to renew itself and surprise us.
