Each sentence is a perfect mix of a showman, of someone who has lived his whole life under the public gaze and of an expert who perfectly understands certain threads, and Caniggia knows it. Now he is the host in the afternoons of ElTrece de Los desconocidos de siempre, an entertainment program whose epicenter involves a participant who faces a panel of strangers, all owners of different skills, and who, based on questions, must reveal. Of course, Alex Caniggia knows what he represents: each of his steps implies news (as it was recently announced that he will have a son with the actress and dancer Melody Luz, whom he met on the reality show El hotel de los famosos in which was crowned the winner). There are the 2.2 million followers of him on Instagram. There are the expressions of him in popular culture: The one with the one!, his calling himself Emperor and more. Nothing ever slows him down, which is why he tells PROFILE that this new and unexpected step: “For me it is logical. I always like challenges and I feel that I have reached a stage in my life that the reality show has ended. The new era has arrived: the most attractive, most charismatic driver arrives. A true director is coming”.
Also famous for his ability to say what no one says, he defends the choice of putting him in charge of ElTrece and the production company FishBox: “I honestly believe that what it used to be is no longer going. That people, many people, almost everyone, are tired of what they have been, of that old, stale model that no longer exists. Always the same things… I think that people now want to see young people, with charisma, spicy. I feel that people are bored with the usual television. I feel that’s why Boxfish, and ElTrece, the number ones, offered me this.”
—How did you feel that defines your bond with people? It is something very strong for a long time that reached its peak in your victory in “The hotel of the famous”.
— I have a lot of followers, people obviously love me. I am not a mask, I say things up front, as they are. Some will like it, others adore it, and there are some who don’t, who can’t with that attitude. There are people who like that crazy way, and have fun, and follow me. My answer is why not? This proposal comes to me precisely because I think I can be a great driver. I did not arrive and he planted me. I choose. I’m sure I can be a great driver and break it all. Of that there is no doubt. The proposal came to me, and beyond, I’ll be honest, it was not even remotely in my plans. They offered it to me and I saw the proposal. I gave him 10 days, and I nailed the hook.
—When we talk about people, we talk about millions of people. Is there a risk there when things go wrong?
“It’s a risk if you take it as a risk.” It is a risk only if you decided that it should be so. It depends how you take it. If you care or you don’t care, of course. Whatever you say, what I say, comes out everywhere, so you can’t send any. I can’t step on the stick. I can’t step on the stick. I don’t care much, really. I feel that those who follow me, my real followers, are fully, fully, with who I am and what I show on the screen, in my networks. I feel like I think everything I think. —Alex, what is fame for you? And I ask considering your entire life, on screen and off it. Few may have experienced it as much as you, from different places.
—For me, fame is something of my whole life, without a doubt. She was next to me in the crib. That. It is normal, it is not something new, because I lived it all my life. But I feel that it is normal, that my days were always marked by that. Normal. There is no leap in my case: I am not a singer who became one overnight. But perhaps, and this yes, I take it as a game.
—Is it a game with dangerous moments or is it a game you can really laugh at?
—Forget it: it’s a fun game. I love haters. I love to put my finger on the sore point of the haters. divides me Haters are reactive. I bought a new ship, I show it, and it rains whores on me. Son of a bitch, your mother’s shell… and so on. One after the other, and I split. And I laugh. They laugh at your body, they tell you that you are fat. They won’t let you pass one. I fought with them. It’s a game, but I know that there are people in this medium that weigh on them, and it can hurt them. I understand that it is something that can hurt, but to me, I insist, it amuses me. I am full with everything now, nothing stops me. Now I am a driver, I no longer do realities. Stage closed.
—Do you feel that this exhibition game is going to bore you?
—I feel that I will never get bored because everything that is screen, television, I love all that. It is a game that will continue for many years in my life. It’s a new stage now, and it’s a stage I see myself in for many long years. So be ready. I like day by day, week by week, month by month. Of course: the reality shows are over.
The family and its importance
—What is family for you considering the exposure they have?
—Whether he’s fighting with my old man or not, as far as everyone knows, family is everything to me. If one day we get together with my old man again, it’s good, the door is open, and if not, nothing happens. Family is important. My sister is the one who is always there. Or, in this case, the Penguin who is the “love of my life.” Sure, without a doubt. Let’s say I’m familiar up to there, not that much either. Now, for example, I leave the recording, and the first people I call are my girlfriend and my sister. The people who are there the most, next to me.
—Would you like to tell your story, or that of your family, in a series at some point in your life?
—It could be… in a book. Or serial. But, really, not at the moment. It’s not important now. When I’m someone 60 years old, but not now. Now I need it to flow, to be surprised, not to look back, but to move forward. My energy is something normal for me, I am like this and I will always be like this. It’s very me, it’s very different from everything. Hence the answer. You have to have confidence. To succeed you have to be a gladiator.
—How is living in Argentina for you?
-I’m lovin ‘it. For me he is the best in the world. I know a lot, almost everything, but I love Argentina. I like the place I occupy in this country, I like this challenge, I feel it, so to speak, my best stage. I love my country. The people are beautiful. Inflation is a downturn, but we are the one, the world champions. It was a great year for me: I won the reality show El hotel de los famosos, I went with the love of my life, host and we came out world champions. That’s all.
