Inflation through the roof: what happened to the purchasing power of retirees

Every time we go to a supermarket or local business, such as a greengrocer, butcher or bakery, we vilely see how our money is devalued. Retirees are no exception, of course.

In recent years, they suffered a sharp loss of purchasing power. According to a report from the Argentine Institute of Fiscal Analysis, ANSES retirees who earned the minimum received in December 2022 a credit with a loss of 11% compared to 2017.

If the comparison is made on an annual basis, the drop in purchasing power in this 5-year period is 19.3% in real termsthe equivalent of 2.3 minimum assets.

To recover the purchasing power that was had in December 2017 It would be necessary to increase having a 12.3% and that it is adjusted month by month according to inflation.

If we go to the figures, the compensation for retirees in order to recover the lost purchasing power should be 94,000 and, to recover what has been reduced in these five yearsthe amount would be around 454,000 pesos.

Among so many negative data there is good news: the registrar could retire in March 2023 a base increase of 16.8% taking the floor just above 58 thousand pesos.
