Port blocked: there was an agreement but a leftist group maintains the protest

The conflict in the port of rosario continues latent, without brake despite the agreement reached by the concessionaire and the union that represents the stevedores, the SUPA: a group of workers identified with the left maintained a blockade this Tuesday that prevented access to staff and the normalization of tasks. From the union they criticized what happened.

The dispute between the firm that operates the docksTerminal Puerto Rosarioand the United Argentine Port Union (SUPA)) data from the last months of 2022 due to the dismissal of 25 employees. After weeks of intense strikes, the parties agreed to reinstate 20, establish a salary increase of 90% per year and the payment of 65% of the days of strike. While the remaining 5 stevedores, faced with acts of violence, were left out of the company but with compensation.

Cesar Aybar, the maximum referent of the union collective, explained that “The five who did not rejoin violently called their colleagues, threatened the board of directors and a notary public with death.” For this reason, he described as “inadmissible” what they are doing. On FM Sí, the union representative pointed out that the dismissals were “caused by the violence they exercised during the protests, burning, breaking and beating colleagues” and that, despite this, they achieved severance pay and an unemployment fund.

On the side of the laid-off workers, they do not think the same: they believe that they should not give in at this moment because the company can motorize new attacks. In addition to a strike, they made various pickets at the terminal entrances and showed the support of other union leaders, such as Marco Pozzi, from the Rosario Aceitero Union, Gustavo Teres from the CTA-Amsafe, Lorena Almirón from ATE and Jerónimo Ainsuaín from the SIPRUS doctors.
