President of the Federation of Grocers: “Every day 15 the silver runs out and we see it by how the customer buys”

The peso continues to lose its value and the dollar is proof of this, because it ended the week with record values. The blue dollar was $369, the tourist dollar was up $329.93 and the CCL dollar (counted with settlement) closed $349.95. To a greater or lesser extent, these increases in foreign currency have an impact on the daily lives of Argentines.

In this context of loss of purchasing power, Reprofile interviewed the President of the Federation of Grocers, fernando savore who said that, “from the 1st to the 15th of each month, the person you see going to work with his backpack has the reality of being able to buy a dessert for the child or a rich cold cut and from the 15th it is the end of the month. After the 15th day, the first discarded brands remain”. The problem that from the middle of the month “the money runs out and we see it by how the customer buys”.

According to INDEC, 2022 had inflation of 94.8% and, in particular, December of 5.1%. For this reason, the merchant referred to what he experienced during the course of last year: “In the middle of the year we had immense inflation that INDEC spoke of 7% and we estimated that it was 2.5% weekly. Because we have the purchase receipts from the previous weeks and we compare them, we know how much the merchandise has increased”.

Why do we workers have to go through the moment we are going through, that it is difficult for us to make ends meet? The middle class was a model in the world and now we are on the verge of falling off the precipice, becoming a lower class. I say this with great respect”, asked Fernando Savore.

I consider that for a family to continue belonging to a middle class, it needs $250,000 and I live in a middle-class neighborhood and I believe that the majority earn less than $100,000”, expressed the President of the Federation of Grocers.

The merchant concluded with optimism: “I have faith because I am Argentine. I would like more professionals, and not always politicians, to get involved in running the country because there is always the fight against each other but we always get bogged down the same. I think he would have thought that new formats, new things. Because those ¨careful prices¨ or ¨super close¨ formats are always in half because we know that those formats were never successful”.
