RadioProfile | On April 23, 2005, the first video was uploaded to YouTube.

The platform that allows users to post and share videos is ranked as the second most popular website in the world, second only to Google.

YouTube was created by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim, three young men who met as employees of the American company PayPal.

Hurley and Karim worked as engineers, while Chen worked as a designer.

The three co-founders made different statements about the birth of the platform, two of them agreed that the original idea was a dating page where people could qualify based on their videos.

Once the site was developed, its domain was activated on February 14, 2005 from the city of San Bruno, state of California.

A few days later, on April 23, founder Jawed Karim posted the first video in the platform’s history, being the only registered user so far.

The video called “Me at the zoo”, converted into Spanish as “Yo en el Zoológico”, lasts 19 seconds and features Karim speaking on camera in front of the elephants at the San Diego Zoo.

YouTube went online shortly after and quickly the platform was filled with all kinds of content, leaving behind the original idea of the creators.

The site’s traffic skyrocketed when users began placing YouTube links on their MySpace pages.

The web had instant growth and quickly caught the attention of companies. In October 2005, Nike placed a spot starring Ronaldinho and in the same year that YouTube was founded, it received investments of more than eight million dollars.

By May 2006, YouTube reached 2 billion daily views and was ranked among the ten most visited sites in the United States.

In October 2006 Google bought YouTube in exchange for 1,650 million dollars, and since then it has operated as one of its subsidiaries.

The site became a commercial success both for its developers and for “Youtubers”, those people who produce and create audiovisual content using YouTube as a communication platform.

Google revealed that 2019 Youtube started receiving 500 hours of video content per minute, and its annual advertising revenue was estimated to exceed 15 billion dollars.

On April 23, 2005, the first video was uploaded to YouTube.
