RadioProfile | The first public tweet was sent on March 21, 2006.

Although there is discussion about the origins of the social network, since its domain was registered in the 2000s, 2006 is considered its first official year. From the outset, microblogging would be one of the favorites for ordinary users as well as celebrities and politicians, thanks to the possibility of sending messages of only 140 characters.

In 2007, Twitter won the South by Southwest web award in the “blogging” category, leaving Obvious Corporation to begin its independent career. It is in 2008 when Jack Dorsey assumes the presidency of the firm, which until then had only 18 employees. By 2009, the social network already had versions in Spanish, French, Italian and German.

In 2010, Twitter launched the promoted tweets service, which would help it establish itself financially as one of the most powerful social networks on the market. In 2015, the company took a new stance and announced the start of the Periscope app, which allows you to stream events live and in real time, in an effort to compete with Facebook Live.

In 2017, the brand would undergo another important change, by allowing the writing of 280-character Tweets, instead of the classic 140. This is because a company study highlights that 9 percent of the messages in English and 5.3% of those written in Spanish reached the limit, which caused many users to have to edit their writing and in some cases abandon it. Currently, Twitter is consolidated as one of the leading social networks on the Internet, with a market value of more than 10 million dollars.
