a survey made by experts from Technological Institute of Buenos Aires (ITBA) revealed various data on how Argentines use technology. And among the most striking data was the following: 70% of the total use of a typical electronic device is “steal” just three applications: WhatsApp (30%); YouTube (27%) and Google (15%).
These numbers tell us a lot about how we use our time and what tools we use and they appear when breaking down the detail of the “Argentina’s First Technology Adoption Index“, a survey whose objective is to facilitate understanding and why our society adopts and prefers some technologies and tools over others.
What is this novel index about? “The Technology Innovation Index – which was designed by a team of ITBA innovation experts – seeks to measure the impact of technology on people’s quality of life, particularly Argentines,” he explained. And he added that “this index also aims to help us understand the adoption of technology by users’ daily activities.” For example, to better understand how they communicate, how they make purchases, how they acquire knowledge or educate themselves, and also how they entertain themselves.

When analyzing the results, the first of the data that stands out is the widespread use: Of the more than 1000 respondents who answered the questions, all chosen with statistical representation and throughout the country, the “heavy” data emerged that the “97% of the population already uses technology and agree that this has a positive impact in their life”.
But going into details: what were the applications? preferred by users? Regarding “Communication”, 93% replaced WhatsApp. at the time of entertainment75% said they used YouTube, which thus became the dominant tool in this category. And to look for informationobviously 50% already use the page that today is the “default” of this option: Google.
Anyway, they are not the only applications that are used daily. In recent times, others have been growing, such as the means of payment. So the applications of “Mercado Pago” and “Mercado Libre” occupied 8% and 4% screen usage priority. And the rest of the use and impact of technology applications is distributed in access to social and health portals (Mi Anses, obras sociales, Prepaid); Insurance, government procedures, food orders or items at home and mobility, among others.

The striking fact? The first dating app that appears in the lists of preferences is Tinder and the second is Badoo. Adding these and others such as Happn, Gindr, etc., it is reached that 5% of all device owners use this category of apps. And here an interesting final point arises to consider: that 5% is an average. But if its use is divided by genre, it turns out that 6% of male users do use dating apps, while among women that figure drops to 4%.
