The docuseries ‘How to become a mob boss’ will premiere on Netflix

Netflix is ​​partnering with CITIZEN JONES and Estuary Films on a third entry in the “How To Become” documentary series, with this six-part series looking at mob bosses of years past.

John Gotti, the infamous Gambino family crime boss who operated out of New York City, is expected to be the main subject of the new documentary series that features scripted segments, interviews and even animated parts.

Rising through the ranks from the 1960s on, Gotti became a mob boss in 1985 by murdering Paul Castellano. In his years as head of the family, Gotti developed a reputation for being ruthless and particularly violent. His reign came to an end after he was arrested in the early 1990s.

Los Angeles-based CITIZEN JONES, founded by Jonah Bekhor and Jonas Bell Pasht, is behind this new entry along with the team of Peter Dinklage and David Ginsberg, Estuary Films. Rebecca Halpern serves as a co-executive producer on the project.


The documentary series is one of three that CITIZEN JONES has produced for Netflix following a similar title theme. In fact, we have seen people refer to How to become a mob boss like season 3.

The most recent entry will be released on Netflix at the end of July 2023, called How to be a cult leader. That series, narrated by Peter Dinklage, looks at a cult leader’s playbook and how he rises to power.

Before it comes How to become a tyrant, which hit global in 2021. That series looked at world leaders past and present who are considered tyrants covering Adolf Hitler, Saddam Hussein, and Joseph Stalin.

How to make a mob boss hasn’t set a Netflix release date yet, although it’s reportedly not coming until 2024, although we’ve heard it could be released sooner.

Netflix did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the documentary series.
