The Knowledge Economy will generate US$7 billion this year

The Secretary of the Knowledge Economy, Ariel Sujarchuk, assured that the Knowledge Economy sector has recovered pre-pandemic levels and this year will generate revenues of US$7 billion.

He also clarified that the stimulus program for the knowledge industry, which was presented this week by the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, does not imply a differentiated exchange rate such as the “soybean dollar”, but rather a “regime of currency release due to an increase in export, which does not affect the current income of the National State”.

Companies will use the so-called “techno dollar” basically to pay salaries

This program grants benefits to companies in the sector in the liquidation of the dollars they generate when investments are made for new ventures or over the incremental exports.

Announcements for the sector and the promotion of exports

The national government announced on Monday a set of measures to stimulate the growth of Knowledge Economy activities, among which the free availability of 20% of the currencies that enter the country through investment projects aimed at exports, as well as 30% of the currencies resulting from the increase in foreign salesto be used to pay salaries.

The measures benefit companies that work in the sectors of software, professional services, biotechnology, audiovisual, aerospace satellite, videogames and nanotechnology, among others, with the purpose of stimulating the generation of foreign currency and qualified employment through direct investments in infrastructure, capital goods and working capital, destined for the start-up of new projects or expansion of others that involve the development of activities in the sector.

Will it be possible to export US$10 billion in the Knowledge Economy in 2023?

The official objective is to reach US$ 10 billion in exports in 2023. The government already made it clear in the presentation last Monday at the CCK of Buenos Aires, when the head of the Palace of Finance, Sergio Massa, and the Secretary of Economy of the Knowledge, Ariel Sujarchuk, presented the stimulus plan for exporting companies in the field.

“There is a broad program carried out by the Ministry of Economy that seeks to generate incentives for exports and new jobs. With this measure for the knowledge economy, we managed to make that dollar factory that Massa talks about and generate quality employment, because of the work environment as well as the magnitude of the salaries,” Sujarchuk highlighted this Wednesday in radio statements.

And along the same lines, he stressed that this activity “has been growing” and added: “It has already recovered the pre-pandemic level and this year it will reach US$7 billion.”

The technological monotribute is coming

The official guaranteed, on the other hand, that this month a bill will be submitted to Congress to create the “technological monotribute”, que It is going to allow independent professionals who export their services “to have a tool to invoice their work and collect it in dollars.”

According to statements by Secretary Sujarchuk, The knowledge economy employs 500,000 people in Argentina and affirmed that the majority of the companies of this activity “are needing personnel, for this reason it is necessary to promote the training of human resources”, they highlighted.
