Almost a year after his official retirement, the Swiss tennis player Roger Federer was honored in Wimbledontournament which he won eight times.

Before the almost 16,000 people who entered the Central Court of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, the Swiss was the protagonist of an emotional reception and stood next to his wife, the former tennis player Mirka Vavrinecand Kate MiddletonPrincess of Wales and member of the British royal family, to witness the match between the Americans shelby rogers and the defending champion, the kazakh Elena Rybakina.

Throughout his career, federer won Wimbledon eight times (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2012 and 2017) and reached the final four other times (2008, 2014, 2015 and 2019).

In addition, he was established 11 other times in tournaments that are played on grass, ten times in Halle and one in Stuttgart.

There he was also the protagonist of several matches that will be recorded for several decades. One of them was for the fourth round of the 2001 edition, when he defeated the American pete sampras cutting a streak of 31 consecutive wins in the tournament.

2009, a historic consecration against Andy Roddick

Although, without a doubt, his most impressive triumph there was in the 2009 final, when he defeated fellow American andy roddick 16-14 in the fifth set, which allowed him to return to number 1 in the world and become the top Grand Slam winner at that time (15).

He also beat the Spanish Rafael Nadal the 2006 and 2007 finals, in the early years of one of the greatest rivalries in sports history.

This year the first edition of Wimbledon is taking place with federer as a former tennis player Although he did not play in the tournament last year, he was still trying to play again (he was able to say goodbye to tennis at the Laver Cup a few months later). The Swiss played the tournament without interruption between 1999 and 2022 and during that period he accumulated 105 wins and suffered 14 losses.
