Announced seemingly out of nowhere, Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken hit theaters in late June 2023 and hasn’t gotten off to the best start (maybe a euphemism) on the box office charts.

When Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken be on Netflix in the US?

As part of an extension to Universal’s deal on the animation side (covering both DreamWorks and Illumination production), Netflix will eventually be the US streaming home for Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken. That very treatment has been the reason Netflix users in the US have recently enjoyed Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, bad boys, and Minions: The Rise of Gru.

As we’ve covered extensively, Netflix shares what’s known as the first window. That’s when its theatrical run ended, physical release also occurred, and then it heads to streaming for the first time.

In the case of DreamWorks movies, they head to Peacock around 80 days after their theatrical release and then to Netflix four months later. Netflix will hold onto it for ten months before returning to Peacock for another four.

Looping through the schedule, then it should be:

  • Theatrical release: June 30, 2023
  • First Peacock Window: ~September 18, 2023
  • Netflix First Window: ~January 18, 2024
  • Peacock First Window Part 2: ~November 18, 2023

Will other Netflix regions be streaming? Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken?

It’s almost certain, since Netflix distributes a lot of Universal movies (live action and animation), but not on any particular schedule.

Netflix Canada, India, Greece, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Hong Kong tend to get new DreamWorks movies around two years after their theatrical release date. We expect the film to reach those territories in 2025.

Most European and Latin American territories tend to get new DreamWorks movies around three years after release (that would mean 2026).

Anywhere else you would probably have to wait longer, unfortunately.

On the subject of animation and DreamWorks, you can find Netflix’s own list of upcoming animated movies here and you may have heard that Netflix will exclusively be the streaming home for orion and darkness that is produced by Dreamworks Animation in 2024.
