A French politician criticizes the anti-climate change proposal of “Emily in Paris”

The series that won millions of fans worldwide was criticized by the deputy mayor of Paris, David Belliard. The politician declared for the newspaper Releasethat the program presents a version ‘disneyland‘ of the city and that it is not viable for the climate change.

The story narrates the life of a young American who decides to move to the French capital to start a new job at a marketing company. The protagonist is played by the British actress Lily Collinswhich provides through its social networks that there will be a fourth season.

Belliard stated that the series presents a unrealistic picture of the citythat he is not ready for global warming. It shows an ‘Instagram’ of Paris, where the colors and views are impeccable. Belliard argues that nostalgia for that ‘stereotyped’ Paris must be abandoned and a new aesthetic reinvented that accompanies environmental changes.

What is Emily in Paris about

In the series, the protagonist moves to the attic of a building, located in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, known as the Latin Quarter. The place, which is an elegant structure from the 19th century, belongs to the group of those constructions that were not adapted for high temperature increases. Belliard affirms that these types of structures are generally occupied by low-income people, who suffer from heat waves during the summer.

Belliard, who has been a member of the French party Los Verdes since 2002, is part of the team of the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, performing functions related to transformations in public spaces. The measures range from changes in transportation, mobility, rules and regulations of public roads, among others.

Belliard argues that nostalgia for that ‘stereotyped’ Paris must be abandoned and a new aesthetic reinvented that accompanies environmental changes.

For the French civil servant, this type of representation of the city responds to the most conservative interests, which refuse to adapt the oldest buildings in Paris. There is opposition to the ecological proposals of Mayor Hidalgo, since they seek to preserve the historical architecture of the capital.

The third season was released at the end of December last year and is one of the most viewed content on the platform. Despite its success and the confirmation of a fourth season, the series is largely criticized by the French public, even in its debut in 2020.
