The idea for the film comes from Cook herself, which will be the second Netflix Original she produces after Guaranteed Love (added to Netflix on September 3, 2020).
The script for A tour guide to love will be written by screenwriter Eirene Donohue, whose credits include Girls Night Out, Sugar and Spice Holidays, A Christmas Sparkle, Y Christmas cheer.
Cook will produce as well as star. Jim Head of Head First Productions will also produce, with Muse Entertainment’s Joel S. Rice and Lydia Storie serving as executive producers.
Directing the film is Steven Tsuchida. The director has worked on several Netflix projects in the past, including directing episodes of cobra kai Y Dude’s healing powers. On the film front, last year he directed resort to love which fell in July 2021.

After an unexpected breakup, a travel executive (Cook) accepts an assignment to go undercover and learn about the tourism industry in Vietnam. Along the way, he finds adventure and romance with his Vietnamese expat tour guide when they decide to hijack the tour bus to explore life and love off the beaten path.

As of November 2021, Netflix A tour guide to love it is planned to go into production in March 2022 according to the number 1271 of weekly production. Filming was reportedly set to take place in Southeast Asia, particularly Vietnam.
In March, Netflix confirmed that the film would be filmed in April 2022, marking the first major production targeting Vietnam since the global pandemic.
According to updated production listings, the movie finished filming on June 16, 2022.
