Aaron Judge receives historic offer from Yankees: report

After his record-breaking and MVP-winning season, Aaron Judge will soon be a very rich man.

The star slugger turned down the eight-year, $230.5 million New York Yankees’ offer before Opening Day, betting on himself, and won big.

After hitting an AL-record 62 home runs, leading the majors in many other categories and being in the Triple Crown race through the end of the season, we’re now in big-deal territory.

According to ESPN, the Yankees have offered Judge an eight-year contract worth “in the neighborhoodof $300 million.

If the number is $300 million on the dot, Judge’s AAV would be $37.5 million, the highest for a position player in baseball history (Max Scherzer’s current $43.3 million is the historical record).

It would also be the fifth free agent contract worth that much money and the 10th deal to reach that amount of dollars.

Depending on what other teams offer Judge — the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers are seen as the biggest threats — the Yankees could well increase their already monumental offer, ESPN notes.

Judge made $19 million last season in arbitration, an amount he and the Yankees agreed to after they were separated by $4 million in arbitration.
