Anya Taylor Joy deletes a tweet that provoked ‘The Queen’s Gambit 2’

Anya Taylor Joy returned to Twitter for a brief moment on January 30 with a tweet that teased Queen’s Gambit 2 but it has been quickly erased.

Launched in 2020 during the pandemic, The Queen’s Gambit became a huge hit for Netflix despite reported hesitation of the higher-ups at Netflix at the time. Based on previous metrics no longer used by Netflix, more than 62 million Netflix accounts watched at least part of an episode.

The drama saw Anya Taylor Joy play the role of Beth Harmon, a chess prodigy who became a world champion. It is widely considered to be one of the best Netflix shows in its history.

The show was (and still is) listed as a limited series, which means that all seven episodes make up the entire story.

Showrunner Scott Frank has spoken publicly about his reluctance for future seasonssaying, “I feel like we told the story we wanted to tell, and I’m concerned, let me put it another way, I’m terrified that if we tried to tell more, we’d ruin what we’ve already told.”

That brings us to Anya Taylor Joy’s unexpected Tweet!

The Tweet, posted at 2:36pm GMT, was only available for around 5 minutes before it was deleted, simply reading: “The Queen’s Gambit 2.”

This was Anya Taylor Joy’s first Tweet since November 2020, where she posted three reaction emojis to the audience stats Netflix announced.

So what is going on here? Well, we’re as much in the dark as you are on this one. It was a mistake? An early reveal that it’s under embargo or something else? We’ll keep our ears tuned and update you if we hear anything else.

More of The Queen’s Gambit it is confirmed that it will arrive on Netflix in 2023 (more or less)

The show will return to Netflix in another guise in 2023. We mean the game adaptation of the series (yes, it’s chess) which will be coming out on Netflix games in due course.

We first learned that the game would be coming to Netflix in March 2022, with Netflix officially confirming the project later in the year.

According to Netflix, here is the official description of the upcoming Queen’s Gambit game:

“Take some lessons, play puzzles and matches, or compete against friends in this awesome love letter to the show. From players new to the game to chess masters, this immersive experience paying homage to the award-winning drama has something for everyone.”
