Argentine Federal Shooting of Buenos Aires: old stories, new pedanas

Building sobriety and practicality with state-of-the-art technology and safety as a priority, this is the new Tiro Federal Argentino, located in a paradisiacal terraced place on the Río de la Plata near Nuñez, Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. These 13 hectares are its new facilities, after the closure of the historic ones located on Av. Del Libertador and Udaondo until 2021. We say that it is seen more from the river than from the city, perhaps because its location, access and exit are not still well signposted.

We got there on a Saturday with the intention of seeing it all. Its board of directors, some partners and several employees guided and advised us at all times. My friend Daniel Callisto was on this occasion who had made all the negotiations to carry out this note. His interlocutors were the vice president, Juan Carlos Salerni, and the general coordinator, Diego Gómez. They also helped us through the different zones and disciplines. But let’s start at the beginning: from the moment you enter, the club surprises you with its wide glazed main door, with signs, clear identifiers and a double-height area that houses the offices. In the corridors there are automatic drinks vending machines, impeccable bathrooms and a sector that will house the future main restaurant. At the end of the gallery, passing through the Centenario pedana, is the buffet No. 2, spacious, simple, glazed, with common tables, appetizing and simple meals at reasonable costs for a club.

well planned

The underground parking, for members and guests, is pleasant and well-developed circulation. Its entrance and exit of vehicles is through the two ends of the property. In addition to this space, it has another level parking lot in front of each stage of the different disciplines, which avoids having to move weapons and supplies long distances. To access them, you have to enter through the members’ gate, where there is a control and surveillance booth with a barrier, and where an employee takes the data of those who enter and indicates the sector to which to go.
The first thing we will find on this 300 m long side access street are the 18 practical shooting stands and, behind them and all along, the rifle stand, then the big game stand and then the gunpowder stand. black. Small arms have their space behind the shotgun courts, surrounded by a large mesh structure that surrounds them and is almost 5 stories high. There are 4 shotgun courts where you can practice four disciplines: Olympic pit, skeet, American foot and propeller. Each of the courts is prepared for the four activities, although for organizational reasons one court is left for each specialty (an engineer controls the consoles and machines once a week to ensure optimal operation, since they are load-bearing automatically to improve the times in the stand).

In front of the shotgun are the covered stands of the 25 m international pistol, FBI, mini rifle, military pistol and pneumatic weapons. Finally, the Centenario stand, exclusively for handguns of all calibers, where members and guests who do not practice any particular discipline shoot.
It is important to note that the target areas of most disciplines have a camera system with large monitors that electronically indicate to the shooter where he hit, which facilitates practice.

More details

In closing, it remains to say that all the rooms are ventilated, pleasant and clean. I really felt satisfied with the great change of this institution. I know that some purists or former members will miss the old club for what they had experienced, but in this new building structure designed to house the technology of this century, those moments will begin to be generated. In addition, the recreation area to share with the family – made up of tennis courts and a terraced pool overlooking the Río de la Plata – is also open to non-visitors at a reasonable cost. The industrial estate is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to 18 (except for some Olympic shooting stands that do it from 8 to 20:30). Enter through Tambor de Tacuarí street at 500, between the Federal Police Circle and the mouth of the Medrano stream.

To close this article, Salerni informed us that there is a greater number of partners in the different disciplines and that the incorporation of new ones is constantly growing, a trend that began to change after the pandemic. Undoubtedly, the shooter won with this change of area and as if that were not enough, the members of the club are willing to make the necessary adjustments to continue growing.
As for the destination of the old property, the City Government will install the Innovation Park there, a scientific and educational hub. The unused part of those lands was auctioned to build towers and thus finance the entire project of the Shot.
