Asteroid the size of a house will pass close to Earth

The US space agency NASA said a small asteroid, the size of a house, will pass close to Earth on Sunday.

The asteroid, named 2014 RC, passed about 40,000 km away from our planet (just over a tenth of the distance from Earth to the Moon).

Although it is too small to see without instruments, with the help of a telescope it might be possible to see it go by, NASA said.

In February 2012, a meteor of a similar size struck Chelyabinsk in central Russia, injuring more than 1,000 people.
