Cachin had the pleasure of playing with the best on the planet on an equal footing

Pedro Cachín is playing with the greats and, many times, like the greats. This time the rival was the best on the planet: Novak Djokovic, who is going for Roger Federer’s record eight titles in the Cathedral.

On the green lawn of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, he was the protagonist of the most important and most anticipated match for the people of Cordoba. Pedro Cachin (who recently asked in a report that they no longer put an accent on his last name) faced Serbian Novak Djokovic, winner of the last four editions of the tournament.

Before any speculation or logic, Cachin fell in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 and 7-6 (4), but these cold numbers do not tarnish the great Argentine game.

The first two sets, with rain through, were one more day in the office for Nole. The first was 41 minutes and the second a little over 30.

In the third set, the match became more even. Only here was when something changed in Cachin’s head and he was able to show that he has tennis to face the best. His first round at Wimbledon was not going to go without pain or glory, it all ended in a tiebreaker. Although he took a cute “mime” from one of the best in history that he will surely tattoo as a souvenir.

“Pedro deserves applause for his performance. Especially in the third set, he hit the ball very well, with great precision, and it wasn’t easy to break his serve. We went heads-up until the tie-break, and I started better. I guess That helped me win the tie-break and close the game”, Djokovic analyzed after the match, praising the good game played by the Cordovan.

Cachín at Wimbledon

Pedro Cachin had gone through the classification three times (2015, 2019 and 2022), but had never been able to overcome it. But since last year he has been playing at a very good level and enjoying the best moment of his career, so this Monday he had the pleasure of playing the most traditional Grand Slam in tennis for the first time.
