Djokovic was not authorized to play Indian Wells and his position in the ATP ranking is in danger

Novak Djokovic received a complex notification. The Serbian will not be able to dispute the Indian Wells Master 1000 and neither the one of miami because they currently do not have the coronavirus vaccines. These absences, without a doubt, would complicate his position at the top of the ATP ranking.

The athlete had requested a special permit to enter the North American country, but the authorities confirmed that the policy against the virus that had the entire world in suspense a few months ago has not yet been lifted. Nole’s place will be taken by the Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili, who will replace him in these tournaments.

In this way Djokovic accumulated his fifth absence in the tournaments organized in that territory: Indian Wells 2022, Miami, Cincinnati 2022, US Open 2022 and now again Indian Wells 2023, Miami 2023are the contests, in which, he had to withdraw due to his decision not to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

The outlook is not favorable for the European, since Carlos Alcaraz and Stefanos Tsitsipas have the chance to strip him of first place. It is expected that his return will be during the start of the European tour of brick dust where he will have to defend the title obtained at Wimbledon 2022.
