Drought: the Government finalizes the relief measures for the countryside

This Thursday a technical meeting was held between officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, the Federal Administration of Public Revenues (AFIP) and Banco Nación (BNA) with representatives of the entities that are members of the Liaison Table and the Argentine Agroindustrial Table, with the objective of define aid measures for producers affected by the drought.

In his social networks, the Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Juan José Bahillo, affirmed that there was “a positive dialogue that allows us to continue working so that in the coming days measures can be announced for producers affected by drought.”

Thus concluded the scheduled meetings that began on Tuesday to define the initiatives to be announced by the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, on February 1, as promised by the head of the Treasury portfolio.

Drought in Entre Ríos generates great animal mortality and crop losses

Last Friday, Massa met with the presidents of the Liaison Table and the Agrifood Table at the INTA Castelar headquarters, where he informed them that the measures to be taken require “a macro view of all, a quick response and we want to take no more than five days of work together to then establish those answers”.

In this sense, they dislike that “On February 1 we have to be giving answers. I think that this is a shared work of all, zone by zone, activity by activity”.

What do they ask for from the field?

At the end of the meeting with Massa, the president of the Argentine Rural Society, Nicolás Pino, said that to Massa “we expressed the needs of the country’s agricultural producers to overcome this crucial moment that production is experiencing”.

“For this reason, we left the minister an economic study so that it could be reduce this year more than half of withholdings with the same fiscal cost that the soybean dollar had”, he added.

Pino commented that both the SRA and the rest of the Liaison Table asked Massa for other measures to alleviate the effects of the drought, such as Elimination of Advance Earnings and the “regulations that make credit more expensive”, among others.
