How many ways are there to be a woman?

When everything stopped, I faced myself and essential questions arose: who am I, what does it mean to be a woman, are we the only carriers of the feminine, what do I want in this world, how does my body change, my desires and needs during the course of life, how did I get here, how do I continue, what do I have to say…

These were some of the reflections that arose in that time of solitude, which at the same time, allowed me to immerse myself in that sea of ​​questions.

With my group, Los CometaBrás, we were about to restock (third season), “MAL Mercados Asociados Limitadas”, a work inspired by Goethe’s Faust, added to other very promising projects for 2020. But the pandemic began. Faced with the situation of not being able to act with [email protected]and since there was nowhere to escape, she decided for the first time to do a solo show and talk about us and our being in today’s world.

But when I got to work, an inevitable question arose, how to make a single musical, without the accompaniment of musicians on stage. So, from that existential nothingness that he was going through at that moment, he decided that he was going to also take on the task of accompanying me by adopting the instruments and also operating the sound technique! from the inside, so I dusted off the guitar from the closet, the piano and some other instruments and put “get to work!”.

How many ways are there to be a woman?

When we talk about women, what are we talking about? Who is that being that in the course of our civilization was and is the bearer of so many stigmatizations? Psychology, religions and different cultures have been part of this construction. But today we empower ourselves to participate equally.

Música para Tigresas is a work that talks about the feminine universe, about the different archetypes and how, from them, we connect with reality and the situations that life offers us.

I started from my personal history, from my writings, from my song projects (which had been waiting for me for so long), from my choice of theater as a profession and within it, independent and group theater. From that initial point I went to meet other authors who talk about women and who brought me back other realities, other challenges and so I was accompanied by songs by Martirio, Caetano Veloso, Liliana Felipe, Contursi, Violeta Parra, Bola de Nieve . These transported me to the experiences of other women in other contexts: love, disappointments, struggles, the inexorable passage of time and its consequences in the different stages of life.

The challenge then was how to tell it without falling into commonplaces, without impositions and without solemnity. Achieving with love, humor and empathy transform a subject with so many conflicting edges, into a festive event. It was so that together with Leandro Rosati in the dramaturgy and direction and Marcela Trajtenberg in the choreography, we built a plot with different languages: the narration, the singing and the music, the audiovisual and the theater scenes, drawing on an aesthetic that is related with the variety of the ’80s, with cabaret theater, and that in one-person shows it has had such important female protagonists as the great teacher Nini Marshall and closer to our Cecilia Rosetto, Nacha Guevara, Edda Diaz, and many others.

This work is part of the trajectory and aesthetics of our group, in which this type of dramaturgical turns is common, enabling us, from the mask of Comedy, to address complex themes with the distance and complicity that humor allows us. Música para Tigresas is a journey through different paths that women travel; a way of talking about us” But not alone… always accompanied by Them, by Them, by Them. A bit of mystery and a bit of love, that’s my everyday medicine.
