Hugh Jackman’s ‘The Son’ Sets US Netflix Release Date

As part of Sony’s first-window deal, Netflix will get its hands on the recent Hugh Jackman movie, The sonwith its arrival on Netflix in mid-May 2023.

Directed by Florian ZellerThis stage adaptation is about a father who faces new problems when his troubled teenage son moves in with him, having built a new life for himself.

The Son first premiered at the Venice film festival last September before being picked up by multiple distributors, including Sony Pictures Classics in the United States, which then released it in mid-January 2023.

The film’s star-studded cast includes hugh jackman, laura dern, vanessa kirby, zen mcgrathand Anthony Hopkins.

The film garnered mixed to poor reviews from critics, currently holding a 29% rating. Rotten Tomatoes reviewers but they do much better with audiences at 64% on RT and 6.3 on IMDb.

Sony Picture Classics has been a bit of a hit or miss for Netflix. So far we have only seen Who We Are: A Chronicle of Racism in America they arrive via the deal, with titles like Compartment No. 6, Maternity Sundayyouthe Duke, and the ghost of the open unfortunately it is not part of the Netflix offer.

Now a release date appears for The son in the “most recent” section, with the title ready to arrive on Netflix but only in the United States on May 20, 2023.

Still to come in 2023 of the Sony deal in the US (and India) are movies like Sixty-five, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and No hard feelings.
