In photos: the dangerous and inaccessible world of illegal logging in Peru

This week the news spread of the death of four Peruvian indigenous leaders, from the Ashanika community, well-known activists against illegal logging, an activity that is in danger of booming and that provides 80% of the wood that Peru exports. According to the companions of these victims, they received several death threats from those who benefited from cutting down trees in unauthorized areas. To show the path that illegally obtained timber traveled, Brazilian photographer Fellipe Abreu traveled to the Yavarí River, on the border between Peru and Brazil. Poachers use the river as a highway to transport logs from the tri-border area between Peru, Brazil and Colombia.
