The Government had asked Interpol to issue a red alert for Jones Huala so that he would be detained preventively until Chile’s extradition request is formalized.
According to the information, he would have done so through a note sent to the Chilean Embassy, given that the leader of the RAM is in the federal court of San Carlos de Bariloche for “a contravention.”

The governor of Rio Negro, Arabela Carreras, He also said that the National Government lost communications with the Court of origin of Chile to issue the red alert in the case and thus enable the international capture and the corresponding extradition request.
In this regard, the Minister of Security and Justice of the province of Río Negro, Betiana Minor, had clarified that the request for a red alert was necessary since the activist could be released if Chile did not make the extradition request effective, Since the crimes for which he is accused do not require preventive detention.
The arrest of Jones Huala in El Bolsón and the request from Chile
Jones Huala was arrested in a police operation carried out “in a house in the town of El Bolsón”, 1,700 km southwest of Buenos Aires, according to the Ministry of Security.
The activist was inside a house in La Esperanza, near the Andes foothills. Official sources said that he was drunk and that he did not resist. “The arrest of the leader of the Mapuche Ancestral Resistance (RAM), who has been a fugitive from the Chilean Justice since February 2022, occurred after several months of investigations,” the portfolio announced.

An Appeals Court had granted him his freedom, but the Supreme Court surely reincarcerated him again, as a result of which a blue arrest alert was issued to Interpol.
This is the second time that Jones Huala has been detained in our country. In August 2018, the Argentine Supreme Court granted him the extradition requested by Chile.
