With the guide Sebastián Ronín we had been planning a fishing in search of the great ones of Berisso. After waiting for the season to progress to look for the best-sized pejes, we thought it was time now, on a day with prevailing winds from the South/Southwest sector, which are the most favorable conditions for this type of fishing. As is known, schools of silversides enter the estuary near the coast, in a strip of 3000 meters from the shore, for this reason they can be found in Palo Blanco (Argentine coast), although this year there was also fishing towards the Hudson area.
We went out in search of the pejes with telescopic rods from 4.20 to 4.50 meters, front reels loaded with multifilament from 0.12 to 0.18 millimeters, line of two or three sucker buoys (in our case we use the Cauque brand) or large 12-centimetre kites, plus a mustache. The rigs were armed with distances of 1.60 meters between each buoy, hook Number 1/0 – 2/0. Among the baits, our offer was the mojarra vida, salty, filet of tooth or a combination of these.
The fishing would be carried out adrift, placing two large layered anchors in the bow and stern that put together an excellent baiting street to attract the fish. We barely crawled a few meters and Sebastián asked for a camera, a beautiful matungo was already bobbing on the surface, You could tell the strength of this very combative specimen. When we climbed it, we realized how much it was because it was a 45-centimeter matungo, an auspicious start. For a moment we thought, could such a large and fast specimen be a coincidence?no doubt cleared pretty much 5 minutes later when another fisherman struggled with another matungo novel of similar length. The third pike was for the person who recounts, there the last buoy turned and when nailing at about 50 meters the fish jump was seen. We thought of a doradillo, but in reality it was a beautiful manduva, which together with patíes we can still capture, because the water lacks a little less temperature.
The piques were very frank, the pejerreyes did not hesitate to eat and we obtained several doublets and even a triplet. The bow sector was favored because the baiting street was heading towards it Due to the effect of the current and the wind, this is how the fishermen from the back of the boat had better responses, both in quantity and quality.
Fabián Calderón, also a guide on the Tobi boat, was next to it, located at the bow and observed the detail of the calle de ceba. When the fishermen were out with their gear for simultaneous catches, he took advantage of the situation and He threw his tackle towards the stern sector, the buoys barely moved 20 meters away and he had a clear pike on the last buoy. The silverside took it to the right and then the buoy was stuck semi-submerged, Fabián stuck and the water exploded. Undoubtedly, there is nothing more beautiful than putting a matungo near the boat. The fish jerked several times and then shot off to the right, once again we had to use the codend, a very used element on this day, to hoist this terrible big Berisso. Fishing was excellent until noon, when the lack of current made the pike a little less, situation that changed an hour later when the flood began. It was only at 5:00 p.m. that we concluded this successful fishing in southern waters to start our return.
