Looking for the silverside quota in La Brava

Every time I get close to Balcarce many memories come to my mind, some related to the picturesque “La Barrosa” racetrack, which I visited so many times to see motor racing, and others, linked to the beautiful La Brava lagoon; without a doubt, among the most pretty of the province of Buenos Aires.

There, in this beautiful landscape, the obligatory stop is always at kilometer 39.5, where the local Fishing Club has its space, made up of a group of tireless people who provide visitors with a careful attention at the height of the beauty of the environment.

It was there that last year I had the opportunity to close the pejerrey season. I was pleasantly surprised by both the quality and the abundance of specimens of the species. That is why, as the time to think about destinations to visit this year approaches, one of the great options is La Brava.

Nowadays, it must be said that fishing embarked going through a good time. depending on the conditions of the lagoon it will not force to try in one way or another. If there is wind, the possibility of obtaining pieces with buoys increases, since the silverside usually rises, although the most profitable is the traditional rig: the popular fluke, a line that is characterized by having a pointer-buoy that allows us to cast far and fish. in a very sensitive way, since with the belly of the nylon we manage the depth where the line will work and we give mobility to the bait.

On the other hand, if the mirror is calm and the water becomes almost oily, you must look for the pejerrey well down, no more than five/10 cm from the bottom. It usually pays well, but this is not the time for the classic paternoster, another line that performs well in this picturesque mirror. Let’s keep in mind that we are in a deep area, so if we have to look for it below, we have to go beyond two meters.

If we work well and do our homework, the quota can be achieved in one day. Diego Mancino, our reference in Balcarce, entered with his friends, Luciano, Sebastián and Tito, leaving with a score of copies in half a day of work.

The exclusive bait was the live mojarra, although we must not rule out the filet, both from the pejerrey itself and from the tooth, which usually yield.

In times of harsh drought and where some bad news appears every day, it must be said that the lagoon enjoys a good level of water. And to think that at the end of February 2018 they suffered the almost total loss of their fish wealth, but the incessant work of the board of directors of the Balcarce Fishing Club put it on its feet and today you can enjoy a excellent present, with many size specimens, mixed with juveniles, and many surprises that exceed 700 to 900 grams. The punishment of nature, fortunately, is a bad memory.

With this auspicious present it is possible to carry out, in this month of March, the second edition of an event that wants to become a classic in the region: the “Silver Arrow” contest, which will take place on Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th.

Sunday will be the fishing tournament in the embarked modality, from 9:00 to 14:00, in search of the heavier silverside. The grand prize will consist of a monetary bonus of $300,000, while the 2nd prize was set at $100,000, in total there will be one million pesos to be distributed among all the winners. But this is not all: there will be a special raffle of $300,000 among all the participants.

General admission will be free and free, while those who want participate of the competition will have to pay the $7000 registration fee. There will be live bands, raffles, an artisan fair, a food truck, drinks, entertainment for children, boat rides, really an ideal plan for a Sunday on the shores of one of the most beautiful lagoons in the country.
