An active duty Marine has been arrested and charged in the death of his 4-month-old baby in Jacksonville, North Carolina, police said Friday.
Christian Mark McGill, 23, the father of the 4-month-old girl, was charged with an open count of murder and arraigned at the Onslow County Jail without bail, the Jacksonville Police Department said in a statement Friday.
Police and other emergency personnel responded to the scene of a medical call at a Jacksonville apartment on December 22 and took life-saving measures of an unresponsive 4-month-old baby, the statement said.
The baby was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics with Onslow County Emergency Medical Services, according to the statement.
The Jacksonville Police Department conducted an investigation into the baby’s death and later arrested McGill, according to the statement. Investigators were working with the local district attorney’s office, as well as Naval Criminal Investigative Services, due to McGill’s status as an active duty Marine, according to the statement.
Naval Criminal Investigative Services confirmed that McGill, who is an active duty Marine Lance Corporal, was arrested Friday in connection with a murder investigation. The agency said he was working with local authorities on the investigation.
