An active duty Marine has been arrested and charged in the death of his 4-month-old baby in Jacksonville, North Carolina, police said Friday.

Christian Mark McGill, 23, the father of the 4-month-old girl, was charged with an open count of murder and arraigned at the Onslow County Jail without bail, the Jacksonville Police Department said in a statement Friday.

Police and other emergency personnel responded to the scene of a medical call at a Jacksonville apartment on December 22 and took life-saving measures of an unresponsive 4-month-old baby, the statement said.

Investigators were working with the local district attorney’s office, as well as Naval Criminal Investigative Services, due to McGill’s status as an active duty Marine, according to the statement.
