Miles of meters of rails were stolen from the Patagonian Train

Last week it was reported theft of more than 1,800 meters of rails, together with their respective sleepers and bolts, near the Aguara Station (Buenos Aires province). The company Tren Patagonico contacted Argentine Trains.

The latter has already made itself available to locate track material that can be sent to the area and thus be able to put the infrastructure back together as soon as possible, according to information from the Rieles multimedia portal.

In recent weeks, Tren Patagonico had carried out a cleaning with the aim of transferring rolling stock to its network. It was projected to have a train that went from San Carlos de Bariloche to Buenos Aires. In fact, at the beginning of January, they moved their locomotives to the south.

The fact causes a serious situation in the recovery of said branch. Inhabitants of the area say they have seen a truck and movement in the place, but nothing was reported at that time.

He president of the Patagonian Train, Daniel García, He explained to the Noticiasnet portal that “we found out through Ferroexpreso Pampeano, last Friday, because they had been called by General Cerri thinking that this piece of track belonged to them, but it did not. So we informed the Cerri Commissioner that it was ours and that’s how we found out about the theft.”

He also commented: “We went to General Cerri, we were with the police, with the neighbors and we made the corresponding complaint.. In the place we collected a lot of information from people and now we are hopeful that we can find the authors”. “We will be making an extension of the complaint before the Federal Court because we want them to find the authors, but at the same time we have already started working on the repair of the road,” he asserted.

On the other hand, García said that “since we cannot go looking for new routes, because you have to go with the machine and for that the bridge, the tracks, etc. must be ready. What was done was to speak with the Administration of Railway Infrastructures (ADIF)”.

Therefore, “it was quickly resolved to remove secondary tracks from some stations, including Carmen de Patagones, and with that we will reach 1,800 stolen meters to replace them and put the section into operation.”
