Argentina formalized its candidacy to host the 2030 World Cup together with Uruguay, Paraguay and Chile in an event held at the premises of the Argentine Football Association. In this meeting I participate Claudio Chiqui Tapia, AFA President, Matthias LammensMinister of Tourism and Sports and the top leader of Conmebol, Alexander Dominguez.
“History and passion are going to give us the chance to host the 2030 World Cup. We know that we must work hard to convince and show the world that we can be the South American host in 2030”said Tapia, who was optimistic about the possibility of organizing the international event in South American territory.
Another who spoke was Domínguez who gave a speech to all those present. “We are convinced and FIFA has the obligation to honor the memory of those who made the first World Cup. Those men made it possible for football to have the exposure we have today. If they were here today they would be surprised.”
Upon the closing of the event, recognition was granted to all the world champions of Argentina in the tournaments obtained in 1978, 1986 and 2022.
Although the candidacy has already been made official, the decision will be made in the 74th FIFA Congress to be held in 2024, two years before the contest that will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
In the battle for the organization of the 2030 World Cup is Spain and Portugal, who intend to add Ukraine to their candidacy. A third alternative was also presented, still unconfirmed, which would be made up of Greece, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
