Three years ago, Netflix in the United States acquired several licensed sitcom hits from previous years from the now-defunct UPN network, including many fan favorites. Now starting with Moeshathey will be slowly phased out for the rest of 2023. Here’s what you need to know.

Please note: all of these removals only apply to Netflix in the United States.

In the summer of 2020, you might remember that Netflix made a big announcement through its Strong Black Lead brand that, in the United States, they would soon be transmission of a selection of classic programs (mostly sitcoms) that aired in the ’90s or ’00s.

Article continues below…

Between August and October 2020, seven total shows that ever aired on UPN, The CW, or BET (all owned in whole or in part by Paramount Global) were added.

After their additions to Netflix, there was a lot of speculation that we could eventually see a renaissance of sorts for several of the shows. A month after adding Moesha, Brandy suggested that revival was being discussedthough ultimately nothing materialized.

Now, starting August 1, 2023, all shows added to Netflix will be slowly removed from Netflix exactly three years after they were initially added. Netflix confirmed the first removal, Moeshain their recent July 2023 moving guide.

Let’s go over which programs will be removed and when:

  • Moesha (Seasons 1-6 – 127 episodes) – Scheduled to be removed on August 1 – Last day to watch July 31
  • The Game (Seasons 1-3 – 64 episodes) – Will be removed on August 15 – Last day to view on August 14
  • Sister Sister (Seasons 1-6 – 119 episodes) – Scheduled to be removed on September 1 – Last day to view on August 31
  • Girlfriends (Seasons 1-8 – 172 episodes) – Scheduled to be removed on September 11 – Last day to view on September 10
  • The Parkers (Seasons 1-5 – 110 episodes) – Scheduled to be removed on October 1 – Last day to view September 30

  • One on One (Seasons 1-5 – 113 episodes) – Will be removed on October 15 – Last day to view October 14

That means that by October 15, 796 television episodes will have left Netflix in the United States.

Of course, popular sitcoms coming out of Netflix are nothing new. In recent years, we’ve seen some big titles, be it The office either Friendsleave netflix.

The good news for most of these shows is that there are a number of other streaming options in the US as-is, despite other services trimming their libraries. In the case of most of the shows listed above, Hulu and Paramount+ currently stream the shows in their entirety. Many also partially stream on free services like Pluto TV and Tubi.
