Netflix will start streaming depp v hearda documentary series about the court trial that was shown live to audiences worldwide in 2022,
John C. Depp, II v. Amber Laura Heard was the much-hyped court case that grew out of the aftermath of years of comings and goings for the pair of Hollywood heavyweights.
The three-part documentary series sets out to recount the events of that trial and analyze the aftermath, including the decision to air it to the public. Episodes two and three look specifically at how online coverage played a role in the trial and how social media reacted to the final verdict.
Channel 4 first aired the documentary series in late May over the course of three days between May 21 and 23. Each episode lasts 47 minutes.
It was ultimately released to mixed reviews, with The Guardian giving it a rating of two stars out of five. concluding that the duo at the center of the case make for “deeply depressing television.” The Telegraph said in his review that the series was right to highlight the social media circus that engulfed the case.
emma coopers is behind the new documentary series as director and executive producer. He worked on the project under his Empress Films banner, notably behind last year’s Netflix original title, The Marilyn Monroe Mystery: The Unheard Tapes and netflix projects including The disappearance of Madeleine McCann and Bikram: Yogi, Guri, Predator.
Cooper is also executive producing another upcoming Netflix Original documentary on the “life and death of popular UK TV presenter Jill Dando.”
When will Depp v Heard air on Netflix?
It has been announced via Netflix that the new series is coming to the service outside of the UK on August 16, 2023.
It’s unclear (but likely) if the series will eventually land on Netflix in the UK without the Netflix Original branding. The good news is that Brits can now watch the documentary series via the Channel 4 website and appor all three parts are available at Youtube.
This is the second major takeover for Channel 4 in recent months, with five star cook Coming to Netflix outside of the UK as a Netflix Original and licensed to Netflix UK as well.
