One of the most popular historical fiction books of recent years, The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo, is getting a movie adaptation on Netflix. The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo is an upcoming Netflix Original period drama and adaptation of the historical fiction novel of the same name by American author Taylor Jenkins Reid.

At the time of writing the film has no director. Brad Mendelsohn will produce through Circle of Confusion studio, and Liza Chasin is producing through 3dot Productions. Liz Tigelaar is writing the script, while Taylor Jenkins Reid and Margeret Chernin are executive producers.

Before Netflix acquired the rights to produce the film, Freeform and Fox 21 Television Studios acquired the rights to make the book into a television series. However, in June 2021 Reid announced that the rights no longer belonged to Freeform and that the adaptation would be produced on another platform.

Less than a year later, on March 24, 2022, it was announced that Netflix had acquired the rights to the adaptation.
