Netflix Top 10 Report: AKA, Sweet Tooth, The Nurse and Murder Mystery 2

Welcome to your weekly roundup of the biggest stories from Netflix’s top 10 figures per hour for the week ending April 30, 2023.

Every Tuesday, Netflix updates its Top 10 Stats page with 40 new figures per hour for the top movies and shows from the past seven days. If you want to easily browse the top 10 hourly data, visit our tool.

Note: In this report of Netflix hours watched from April 24, 2023 to April 30, 2023, we will use “Full View Equivalent” or CVE, expressed in millions. That means we divide the hours watched advertised by Netflix by the running time of the movies or series. It allows for better comparisons between movies and series, but it is not an audience metric. It is the minimum number of viewings if they were all complete from the first second to the last of the movie or season.

1. murder mystery 2 it ends its first 28 days on a high note.

According to my estimates, murder mystery 2 became the 12th Netflix film to break the 100 million CVE mark after 28 days at 102 million CVE, just shy of the first’s 104.9 million CVE murder mystery during the same launch period.

That’s a pretty remarkable hold for a sequel and another proof that Adam Sandler is a huge draw for Netflix, with Hustle reaching 94.6 million CVEs during its first 28 days in 2022.

We will hereby give Sandman a new nickname. Therefore, we will call it the “100M CVE man”.

2. alias knocks hard from the door.

Another actor who is quietly starting to become one of Netflix’s biggest action stars is French actor Alban Lenoir who, after lost bullet and its sequel stray bullet 2He came back last week with another action movie called alias. It scored the best opening weekend for any French film on Netflix, surpassing the demolition, and the fifth best opening for any international film released on a Friday.

Thanks to its 2-hour runtime, it could break into the all-time Top 10 as soon as next week.

3. The nurse breaks a record in its first week.

Another bright spot on the international TV side is the release of the Danish limited series The nurse. Being quite short, it didn’t break any records, in terms of hours watched, but when we use the CVE metric, it had the best launch of any international series released on a Thursday with 9 million CVEs, surpassing “The Empress”.

Now, due to its short runtime, I expect it to drop pretty quickly in the next couple of weeks, but that’s a solid release.

4. is Sweet tooth succumb to the 2 year hiatus curse?

The curse of the “2 year break” could claim a new victim this week as season 2 of Sweet tooth launches with 7 million CVEs in its first four days. That’s slightly better than the season 2 release of shadow and bonebut that’s not saying much.

Now there might be a silver lining here, as season 3 is reportedly renewed regardless of how season 2 fares. Still, we’ll have to wait for any information on a renewal for a third season, same for ginny and georgia and shadow and bone.
