Packers’ Aaron Rodgers on upcoming game against Bears: ‘I plan to play this week’

Nothing got better Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, with quarterback Aaron Rodgers forced out the game late in the third quarter after injuring his ribs.

Rodgers said after the loss that he was having trouble breathing and rotating his upper body, and that he was concerned he might have punctured a lung.

With Green Bay’s playoff chances dwindling by the week, there is some speculation surrounding the idea of ​​Rodgers sitting out as his injuries continue to mount.

But the four-time MVP, who is also dealing with a broken thumb, plans to play Sunday against the Chicago Bears.

“We’re not out,” Rodgers said Tuesday on “The Pat McAfee Show.”

“I got good news with the scans yesterday. So, I plan to play this week.”

Rodgers detailed the injury, saying he was in “considerable pain” before heading to the locker room.

“There was a shot earlier in the game that jarred the ribcage,” Rodgers said Tuesday. “And I was trying to stretch some things a little bit at halftime and I realized it probably wasn’t some kind of muscle injury. And I got hit again in the third quarter and I was having trouble breathing.”

Jordan Love, a backup quarterback and former first-round draft pick, filled in for Rodgers the rest of the way, throwing one touchdown pass on nine attempts.

“I’m not surprised that he came out and played well and had great poise. We see this every day. People may not necessarily agree with that, but I see it every day,” Packers head coach Matt said. LaFleur, on Love.

Rodgers is 23-5 against the Bears in his career.
