RadioProfile | Time magazine was published for the first time on March 3, 1923.

Coming out long before its competitors, it became the first general information weekly in the United States. Time was founded by journalists and businessmen Briton Hadden and Henry Luce, who had already worked together at Yale University years before.

The name “Time” does not correspond to “Tiempo” in Spanish, but is an acronym for the phrase “youtoday Yoinformation media myeverything” which means “Today information is everything in Spanish”.

Until 1926, the covers remained in the same style: with few details and in black and white. That year, color was added to the margin of the cover and the following year, the classic red borders on its front cover.

Hadden, who became the richest young man in the world, served as Editor for the first few years until his death in 1929. He was discovered by Luce, who took full control of TIME and began its expansion by acquiring other publications. , becoming one of the most important figures in the history of the mass media of the 20th century.

The magazine quickly expanded its circulation and increased its influence throughout the surrounding areas, selling, in 1927, more than 175,000 copies per week. Issue 10 includes the first photograph of a person, in this case, of US Congressman James M. Beck. For the 22nd cover, the Italian actress Eleonora Duse was chosen, becoming the first woman to appear in the magazine.

The success of the publication inspired the birth of other magazines with a similar format, such as Newsweek, founded ten years later by former Luce workers.

In 1974, Time published the only editorial commentary of a political nature. In it, he expressed his opinion in favor of the resignation of then-President Richard Nixon, marred by the Watergate scandal.

The magazine chooses every year the most outstanding person in informative terms; though nonetheless he has to be a human being. In 1982, that title was given to the personal computer. Sometimes this next controversial election, since the recognition does not necessarily imply an honor, but only that they have influenced, for better or worse, news events such as the case of Adolf Hitler in 1938.

Frequent Time highlights actions of unknown people such as the case of the eight-year-old Mexican girl who invented a low-cost solar heater. Since 1989, the weekly was part of the Time Warner group, which was created through the merger of Time and Warner Communications.

In February 2012, and for the first time, the weekly published its main front-page headline in Spanish with the phrase “I decide”, which gave an account of the importance of the Hispanic electorate in the presidential elections.
