the wild river (labeled as simply wild river in some places), a new direct-to-video reboot of the classic 1994 film starring Meryl Streep and Kevin Bacon, arrives on Netflix US along with its digital and DVD debut on August 1, 2023.

Directed by Ben Ketai, this new thriller (rated PG-13) will arrive on Netflix in early August 2023, marking the film’s debut on SVOD.
Here’s what to expect from River Wild stars Leighton Meester, Adam Brody, Taran Killam, Olivia Swann, Eve Connolly, and Nick Wittman:

talking to ew Just a few days ago, the team behind the movie revealed that they shot on location in Eastern Europe, including Hungary, Slovakia, and Bosnia.
As mentioned, it is a reboot of the beloved 1994 film directed by Curtis Hanson and written by Denis O’Neill. At press time, the original movie is streaming on Starz, but it often moves around. The film is a new story that resides in the “universe” of the original and is often referred to as a “reimagining”.
The film is coming to Netflix as part of a production deal the streamer has with Universal Pictures and its direct-to-video division, Universal 1440 Entertainment. This division is generally known for creating films with smaller budgets than Universal’s main arm, and for exploiting intellectual property held by Universal.
That same deal has seen plenty of movies coming to Netflix in recent years, including Blade of the 47 Ronin, RIPD 2: Rise of the Damnedand the monsters.
Once available on Netflix, wild river it will remain in service for three years, which means it will be available until August 1, 2026.
