In search of himplaces near Federal Capitall, we contacted Javier “Pity” Sancho, a reference from Magdalena and a great connoisseur of the area due to his extensive experience as a party firefighter and staff at large events and donations at the local level. It was he who told us that the pique in that area had been taking place on the coastal strip, no more than 1,500 m from the shore. As a result, silversides were obtained that They ranged from 30 cm, with some surprises up to 50 cm. Examples that sometimes and with a southeast wind they passed the kilo of weight. And we spent four unforgettable hours there with an excellent result.
In the company of Daniel Pavoni (from Pescavisión), Alberto Frontoni and our friend Ignacio Esquivel, road tourism runner in the Pista Mouras category, we set off from the Atalaya wharf, place where the fishermen gather on the banks of the local stream, and where the boats prepare to leave for the Río de la Plata in order to carry out the seasonal fishing that attracts fans at this time: that of silver arrows.
The day came with southwesterly winds of no more than 10 km/hwhich would allow us to navigate peacefully until 2:00 p.m., at which time –according to the National Meteorological Service– it would change direction and increase, a fact that is not less to be taken into account every time we embark on the widest river in the world.
Arrived at the place and with the boat stopped, we set up lines of three medium buoys, in pacifier format and 40 mm ping pong, since we found ourselves with an ironed mirror that allowed us to see them navigate. Hooks: number 1/0 incarnated with live mojarras and fillet of the same silverside. As for the rest of the team, coils of the size 2,500 to 3,000 loaded with 0.15 multifilaments up to 0.17 mm suitable for 20 lb (1 lb = 0.453 kg) and telescopic rods ranging from 4.20 to 4.50 m long, because the distance of the lines must be greater than 3 m to allow them to navigate well without getting tangled if we have double pikes, very frequent in the river.
With the boat of more than 7 m in length”holds” using two layer anchors (the drift is safer and more stable) and the lines in the water, the first specimen did not take long to arrive. We were in the sector known as La Vasquita, with shell and sediment beaches, with a high concentration of food for silversides. There the guide was able to hoist a robust piece of 35 cm caught near the boat, which reached a depth of 10 cm with firm driving. For his part, Daniel soon caught a double with the same characteristics, while Nacho and Alberto were testing lines of different colors and formats to find the exact one. Once they were ready, they were able to hoist large silversides.
The drift had pushed us from the area heading south to a place known as the blackhead, about 2,000 m from the coast. In the first shot Daniel was able to nail a robust specimen of more than 40 cm that was tempted with a fillet of silverside to which he added mojarra. For their part, the guide, Nacho and Alberto continued to add to the fee. In just an hour and a half I already use half a 20 liter taco of very good size fish. But you could just as well make a last stop in front of the Ferreyra fields, a point that in the last outings of the guide had been yielding higher quality shipping, since the waters in this sector are very clear. The echo sounder marked a depth of just over 2 m with fairly oxygenated waters. It took 10 minutes for the four rods to have a frenzy of bites, all at the same time: it was pulling and taking out larger silversides. We even found a voracious specimen that exceeded 45 cm and took two baits: the one on the hook of the last buoy and, at the same time, the one on the moustache.
If the forecast helps, only half a day is enough fishing to make a selected quota of pieces larger than 30 cm, with some specimens that break the mold as a surprise. It is an easy fishing in a place where there are a lot of silversides, so much so that it is ideal to learn to nail and start fishing from a boat with the family. The place is also a good alternative because it has a comfortable dock to lower belongings. The municipal property is free, it has shaded parking for the vehicles, benches and tables to be able to have lunch after a half day of successful fishing.
A separate paragraph deserves our TC pilot and friend Ignacio Esquivel, who spent a magnificent day fishing. High category pilots are full of adrenaline all the time at the racetrack, so relaxing in the river to enjoy nature is an unbeatable pastime.
