Steelers’ Kenny Pickett called the play that put the team ahead against the Colts, teammate says

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie Kenny Pickett made his mark in the team’s 24-17 win over the Indianapolis Colts, engineering the go-ahead scoring offense early in the fourth quarter.

Steelers center Mason Cole gave a behind-the-scenes look at the final play, telling reporters after the game that the play that brought running back Benny Snell into the end zone was Pickett’s pick.

“That run we scored on, Kenny called it,” Cole said after the game, via Pro Football Talk. “We were in the timeout, and Kenny said, ‘I want to run this.’ Seeing that confidence, on third-and-2 on the goal line, is great. It’s good to see it, it’s exciting to see it. It really showed who he is as a leader, the dominance that he has on the field.”

Pickett admitted that he mentioned the play to the Steelers’ coaches.

Pickett led the Steelers on an 11-play, 75-yard drive that ended with Snell’s touchdown and a successful two-point talk attempt thanks to a pass to George Pickens. Pittsburgh took a seven-point lead with 9:44 remaining in the game and never looked back.

On the drive, Pickett had a 13-yard pass to Snell and a 17-yard pass to Pat Freiermuth to help set up the touchdown.
