Storm Reid Sony Thriller ‘Missing’ Sets US Netflix Release Date

Netflix has confirmed the release date for the thriller Missing from directors Will Merrick and Nick Johnson, coming to Netflix US on May 20, 2023.

First debuting at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2023, the film was finally released shortly after. Now, as part of the first window deal Netflix has with Sonycomes to the streamer just a few months after its initial debut.

Released under Sony Pictures Releasing’s Screen Gems banner, here’s what you can expect from the new thriller:

When June’s mom and her new boyfriend don’t return from a trip to Colombia, the tech-savvy teen launches her own online investigation.

The title has some connections to other movies, including the 2019 anthology sequel. searching and a spiritual sequel to Run (which came to Netflix as an original title in international territories).

Certified New on RottenTomatoes with a score of 87%, the film has done well with critics and audiences alike and will undoubtedly be one of the best on Netflix.

Empire Magazine perhaps best sums up the reviews, concluding“A gripping, well-told and incredibly easy-to-watch thriller for a new generation of TikTok detectives, and a compelling argument for boosting your average screen time.”


Which Netflix regions will show Missing?

Only Netflix in the US and India hopes to pick up Missing May 20

Regions outside of the US will likely receive Missing in the coming years as Netflix and Sony have partnerships in most regions. For example, Netflix in the UK tends to get new movies from Sony around 2-4 years after their theatrical release.
