the umbrella academy received its fourth and final season order after Season 3 dropped in the summer and now we’ve heard that production is looking to gear up in early 2023.
Season 3 of the umbrella academy appeared for 5 weeks in Netflix’s top 10 this summer following the release of the third season on June 22, accumulating 301.85 million hours watched between June 19 and July 24, 2022.
On August 25, Netflix confirmed that we would be back with the Hargreeves for one final season.
Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya, and Colm Feore are confirmed to return for season four.
Since that initial announcement, the only news we’ve heard of the umbrella academy came on Netflix Tudum, where a blooper reel was released:
weekly production currently reports that the umbrella academy season 4 is scheduled to begin filming in February 2023 under the codename kodiak.
Another production resource indicates that the series will film between the first and third quarter of 2023, which could mean that the series will not end until September 2023 at the latest.
Season 4 will continue filming in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where all previous seasons have been filmed.
What does all this mean for a release date?
Given how heavy post-production a show like The Umbrella Academy is, these production deadlines make a 2023 release seem increasingly unattainable, which means we currently estimate the show won’t return for its final season until early 2024. .
As you may have heard, the showrunner of the umbrella academy he has two other major projects in the works for Netflix.
